I hear that success has many fathers. No mother, though.

In the wake of the double-whammy referendum rejection earlier this month, it was largely the men who had been on the right side of the vote who got to enjoy the spoils. Michael McDowell, looking jolly with a Mother’s Day balloon in the courtyard of a sparsely attended Dublin Castle. Rónán Mullen, joking about how he would have hit a nightclub to celebrate if only it hadn’t been Lent. And Peadar Tóibín, who got to enjoy the rich satisfaction of being one of the only opposition party leaders who had called it right in opposing the vote.
